The Research Forum of the Research and PG Department of English, The Zamorin’s
Guruvayurappan College, organized a special programme on 26 February 2026 at
10 AM in the Research Center Seminar Hall. The event was conducted to honour Dr.
Binu P S, Associate Professor of English, on her retirement after 30 years of
exemplary teaching service. The programme also featured an invited talk on the
topic “Survival of Persons with Disabilities in the Contemporary Society: Major Socio-
Cultural Challenges.”
The programme commenced at 10 AM with a welcome speech delivered by Dr.
Anusree R S, Research Forum Coordinator, Department of English. She warmly
welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, research scholars, and students,
highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Sreeshylum Unnikrishnan, Principal in
Charge, who spoke about the remarkable contributions of Dr. Binu P S to the
academic community and appreciated her dedication and commitment to teaching
and mentoring students over the past three decades.
As part of the honouring ceremony, the Research Forum presented a memento to
Dr. Binu P S in recognition of her outstanding service. The memento was handed
over by Dr. Habeeb C, Research Supervisor and Associate Professor, Department of
English, Farook College (Autonomous), along with Dr. Arya Gopi.
Following the honouring ceremony , the invited talk was delivered by Dr. Habeeb C
on the topic “Survival of Persons with Disabilities in the Contemporary Society: Major
Socio-Cultural Challenges.” His talk addressed the various social, cultural, and
structural barriers faced by persons with disabilities in contemporary society. He
emphasized the need for inclusive policies, social awareness, empathy, and
academic engagement in disability studies to create a more equitable society. The
session was insightful and thought-provoking, enriching the academic discourse
among participants.
The felicitation speech was delivered by Dr. Jibin Baby, Assistant Professor of
English, ZGC, who expressed appreciation for Dr. Binu P S’s contributions to the
department and acknowledged her inspiring role as a teacher and mentor.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Aswin Vijayan,
Assistant Professor of English, ZGC. He expressed sincere gratitude to the chief
guest, dignitaries, faculty members, students, and organizers for making the event a
meaningful and memorable occasion.
The programme ended on a note of appreciation, reflection, and academic
enrichment, marking both a celebration of dedicated service and a significant
intellectual engagement on an important contemporary issue.
