Policy on Standing United Against Ragging

At The Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, we believe in nurturing an atmosphere of mutual respect, camaraderie, and academic excellence. Ragging, a dehumanizing practice that harms the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of students, has no place within our institution. We are committed to eradicating this harmful activity and ensuring that every student can pursue their education in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.

We have implemented a rigorous Anti-Ragging Policy that is enforced by a dedicated Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC), which works proactively to prevent, monitor, and respond to any incidents of ragging. Through a combination of prevention, awareness, support, and accountability, we aim to foster a campus culture that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of every individual.

Objectives of the Anti-Ragging Policy

  1. Prevention: We take proactive measures to prevent ragging before it occurs. Our institution enforces strict anti-ragging rules and continuously monitors campus activities to ensure a ragging-free environment. This includes identifying potential high-risk areas and times, such as the arrival of first-year students, and intensifying vigilance during these periods.
  2. Awareness: Education is key to eliminating ragging. We regularly organize awareness programs to educate students about the harmful effects of ragging on individuals and the institution as a whole. Our campaigns promote a culture of mutual respect, empathy, and inclusion, emphasizing the importance of positive peer relationships over coercion or intimidation.
  3. Support: Victims of ragging are provided with comprehensive support systems, including counseling, medical care, and academic assistance, to help them recover from their experiences and reintegrate into campus life. We ensure that students feel safe reporting any incidents, and we maintain confidentiality and provide reassurance to those affected.
  4. Accountability: Perpetrators of ragging are held accountable for their actions through strict disciplinary measures that may include suspension, expulsion, or legal action, depending on the severity of the offense. We follow a clear and transparent process that ensures justice is served swiftly and fairly, upholding the rights of the victim and the integrity of the institution.
  5. Collaboration: Addressing ragging requires a collaborative effort. Our Anti-Ragging Committee works in close coordination with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, such as law enforcement agencies, to prevent and respond to ragging incidents. We also engage parents and guardians in this effort by seeking their support and vigilance in promoting an anti-ragging mindset.

Zero Tolerance Towards Ragging: Safeguarding the Student Community

Ragging is broadly defined as any behavior, whether physical, verbal, or psychological, that undermines the dignity, respect, or well-being of another student. This includes any form of harassment or intimidation, particularly towards freshers or junior students, with the intent of causing discomfort, fear, or humiliation. Such behavior is unacceptable, and our institution enforces a zero-tolerance policy.

Ragging is prohibited in all areas of the college, including classrooms, hostels, sports complexes, canteens, and transportation facilities. To reinforce our commitment, all students and their parents or guardians are required to sign an anti-ragging affidavit upon admission, affirming their awareness of the institution’s strict policies and the severe consequences of engaging in ragging.

Before the academic year begins, the Anti-Ragging Committee conducts extensive awareness campaigns using posters, leaflets, and interactive sessions to educate the student body about the seriousness of the issue. These initiatives are reinforced during the induction programs for first-year students, where they are informed of their rights and the institution's protection mechanisms. Students are encouraged to report any incidents of ragging immediately, and assured that all complaints will be handled with strict confidentiality and prompt action.

Reporting and Redressal Mechanism

Our Anti-Ragging Committee has established a clear and accessible reporting system that allows students to report ragging incidents without fear of reprisal. Complaints can be submitted in writing or through other communication channels, and the college ensures that the burden of proof lies with the perpetrator, not the victim. Investigations are conducted fairly and swiftly, and any student found guilty of ragging will face appropriate disciplinary action.

We take every report seriously, and by maintaining transparency and fairness in the investigation process, we ensure that the rights of all parties involved are respected. Our goal is not only to address individual cases but also to create a culture where ragging is universally condemned and eradicated.

Composition of the Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC)

Our Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) is composed of a diverse group of members representing all key stakeholders within the college community, ensuring comprehensive oversight and action against ragging. The committee members include:

  • Principal: The head of the institution provides overall leadership and ensures the smooth functioning of the ARC.
  • Faculty Representative: A senior faculty member committed to student welfare and campus safety.
  • College Office Superintendent: Responsible for administrative support and ensuring policy enforcement across all departments.
  • President of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA): Representing the interests and concerns of students’ guardians.
  • Undergraduate Representatives: Representatives from each year of the undergraduate program to give a voice to the student body.
  • Postgraduate Representative: A representative from the postgraduate program to ensure concerns specific to PG students are addressed.

Together, this committee is tasked with monitoring, preventing, and addressing incidents of ragging on campus. The committee regularly reviews anti-ragging policies, conducts investigations, and ensures strict compliance with all legal and institutional guidelines.

At The Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, we believe that every student has the right to pursue their education free from fear, harassment, or intimidation. Our Anti-Ragging Policy reflects our deep commitment to creating a respectful, supportive, and inclusive campus environment. Through awareness, prevention, accountability, and support, we ensure that ragging has no place in our institution, and we stand united in promoting the safety and well-being of every student. Together, we can build a brighter, safer future for all.Top of Form
