Report on Beach Cleaning Drive as Part of Swachhata Hi Seva

As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the institution organised a Beach Cleaning Drive on 27 October 2024 , in collaboration with the Regional Science Centre. The programme aimed to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness, and community responsibility among students.
A large number of participants, including NSS volunteers and students of the college, actively took part in the event. The initiative was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Meera P.I. and Dr. Jibin Baby, who ensured smooth coordination, safety, and effective execution of the cleaning activities.
The event began with an orientation session led by representatives from the Regional Science Centre, who briefed the students on the significance of coastal cleanliness, the impact of marine waste on biodiversity, and the scientific principles behind waste management and recycling. Following the briefing, participants were divided into groups and provided with gloves, collection bags, and other necessary materials.
Students engaged enthusiastically in collecting plastic waste, bottles, food wrappers, fishing debris, and other non-biodegradable materials scattered across the beach. Through hands-on involvement, they gained practical understanding of the challenges of pollution, improper waste disposal, and its harmful effects on marine ecosystems. Their guidance helped maintain discipline, ensure safety, and maximise the impact of the drive. The collaborative effort also instilled in students a deeper respect for nature and the importance of cleanliness as part of civic responsibility.
The Beach Cleaning Drive successfully conveyed the message of sustainability and environmental conservation. It strengthened the commitment of the college community towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment, while also aligning with national initiatives promoting sanitation and ecological awareness.
The programme concluded with a short reflection session, where students shared their experiences and insights gained from the activity. The institution plans to continue similar initiatives to foster environmental consciousness and promote active participation in community-based ecological programmes.
