The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College proudly marked a significant step towards ecological sustainability with the inauguration of ‘Shobheedram’ — the Butterfly Garden and Star Tree Forest on its campus. The initiative was launched under the auspices of the Nature Club and the Bhoomithrasena Club, in collaboration with the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department.
The inauguration ceremony, held at 11 a.m., was graced by the Hon’ble Minister for Forest and Wildlife, Shri A. K. Saseendran, who officially opened the eco-initiative. In his address, the Minister praised the college's proactive approach to biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness.
The college Principal, Dr. Rajani B., presided over the function and highlighted the importance of engaging students in nature conservation projects. She emphasized that such green initiatives not only enrich the campus ecosystem but also inspire future generations to become responsible custodians of the environment.
The Butterfly Garden has been dedicated in memory of Prof. Shobheendran, a revered environmentalist and former faculty member of the college, whose commitment to ecological values left a lasting impact on the academic and natural landscape of the institution.
