Prof. Xing’s presentation, titled Environmental Distribution and Risks of Microplastics to Human Health, captivated attendees by shedding light on one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time.
During his address, Prof. Xing delved into the complex pathways through which microplastics are distributed in the environment and their potential threats to human health. He emphasized how microplastics have infiltrated various ecosystems, including oceans, freshwater bodies, and soil, where they accumulate and enter the food chain. His detailed analysis revealed alarming evidence linking microplastic exposure to various health risks, including respiratory issues, endocrine disruption, and even carcinogenic effects. He also called for enhanced international research and stronger policy measures to address this growing environmental hazard.
The seminar attracted a diverse audience of researchers, academics, and students, sparking important discussions on the environmental and public health implications of microplastic contamination. The event underscored the need for a holistic approach to managing environmental pollution, urging collaboration between environmental scientists, health experts, and policymakers.
This important event was organized in collaboration with the Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College Devagiri, Kozhikode, and supported by the Kerala State Higher Education Council under the ERUDITE Scholar-in-Residence Programme, marking a significant academic partnership aimed at addressing global environmental challenges.
