Department of Chemistry Celebrates Onam with Pookkalam and Onasadya

12th September 2024, Kozhikode: The Department of Chemistry at The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College celebrated the spirit of Onam with traditional festivities, including a beautiful Onam Pookkalam (floral carpet) competition and a grand Onasadya (traditional feast) on campus. The event brought together faculty, students, and staff, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere in celebration of Kerala’s most cherished festival.

The day began with the creation of the Pookkalam, where students and faculty worked together to craft intricate floral designs, symbolizing unity and harmony. The colorful Pookkalam, made with vibrant flowers, became the highlight of the day, drawing admiration from everyone who visited the department.

Following the Pookkalam competition, the celebrations continued with the much-awaited Onasadya, a traditional feast that included a variety of delicious dishes served on banana leaves. Faculty members and students came together to enjoy the festive meal, sharing laughter and stories, and celebrating the values of togetherness and joy that Onam represents.

The Head of the Chemistry Department, in her address, expressed her delight at the enthusiastic participation of students and staff. She highlighted the importance of preserving cultural traditions like Onam, which bring the community closer and foster a sense of belonging.
